Roberto Viernes | Master Sommelier
Roberto Viernes, Master Sommelier, earned this designation in 2005, and was one of the youngest persons in the world to have achieved this coveted title. He is one of only two Master Sommeliers in Hawaii. Roberto has intimate knowledge of all aspects of the wine industry and has worked in retail, restaurant and distributor settings, previously working for R. Field Wine Co., Neiman Marcus Epicure Department, Mariposa Restaurant, and Padovani’s Bistro & Wine Bar.
Roberto is currently the Director of Education for Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawaii, where he oversees and manages several import portfolios, in addition to facilitating the training of in-house staff at top restaurants around Oahu and the Neighbor Islands. Roberto travels frequently to the classic wine growing regions worldwide to gain an even better understanding of wines and to continue honing his skills. Roberto teaches courses with the Court of Master Sommeliers and is also a monthly contributor to The Star-Advertiser and writes a column titled Vino Sense in the Midweek Magazine.
